Gate Keypers is a Canadian technology startup. We design, build, and operate our own identity-first access platform: the cloud software, the operations dashboard, and the access hardware. Our purpose is simple. The people inside a building should be recognized, protected, and respected.

Born as GhostPass, Best in Class in Cybersecurity

Gate Keypers began as GhostPass, a cybersecurity capstone at Durham College recognized as Best in Class in Cybersecurity at the IT Student Expo 2025. The three of us met in that classroom and turned the research into a production identity-access platform.

I was raised by my grandmother in Scarborough while my parents worked. She called me Vin Kuti, “little one.” Years later, Alzheimer’s came for her. We’d sit and have whole conversations, and then she’d turn and ask, “Where’s Vin?” I was right there.

The technology to help her didn’t exist. I know, because I spent fifteen years inside healthcare. I started as a pharmacy assistant at Shoppers Drug Mart and worked my way up to leading product for Medisystem, the pharmacy platform inside long-term care homes across Canada. Then I became Director of Technology at a law firm, the first job where protecting what’s behind a door wasn’t a feature, it was the whole point.

And when life knocked me down, I rebuilt from the bottom: night shifts, back to school for cybersecurity. One morning I forgot my badge and let myself into a secure building with a $200 gadget, and nobody noticed. That class project became Gate Keypers.

I couldn’t help my grandmother then. The technology wasn’t there. It is now.

All it takes is helping one grandma at a time, and treating every single one like she’s my own.

I met Vino in a cybersecurity classroom. For our capstone project, everyone could see the badge, the reader, the door opening. I built the part nobody was supposed to notice, the monitoring layer behind it. The system that watched what happened, recorded it, and made sure somebody could answer the question afterward: what actually happened at that door?

I never really stopped building it. For a long time, Gate Keypers happened after everything else. I’d finish my shifts, come home, open the laptop, and keep working on backend, infrastructure, security, automations, logs, and architecture. Not because anybody was asking me to stay up and do it, but because I could already see what this had to become.

A secure door isn’t just hardware. It’s identity, software, infrastructure, evidence, and accountability working together, and if any one of those layers fails, the promise fails with it. Today, I own that invisible layer end to end: the platform behind the door, the systems that connect everything together, the security architecture protecting it, and the evidence trail that can tell an operator, an auditor, an insurer, or a family exactly what happened and when.

I came to Canada as a student trying to build a life from the ground up. Maybe that’s why I care so much about building things that can stand on their own. And if one of our doors is protecting somebody’s medicine, somebody’s home, or somebody they love, then “probably secure” will never be good enough for me.

Trust shouldn’t depend on somebody saying, “believe me.” It should be engineered into the system.

I grew up breaking things to understand them. Back in India, I competed in capture-the-flag hacking competitions, attacking systems, defending them, learning exactly how they fail. I came to Canada as a student, and in a cybersecurity classroom in Oshawa I met a guy with a cloned badge and a crazy idea. I built the hardware side of that class project. I haven’t stopped building since.

On August 7, 2026, a door unlocked for a room full of investors. No fob, no band, no badge, no phone. It ran on hardware I built with my own hands. That same day, I worked the last shift at my old job. The door opened. I walked through it.

I’m employee number one. I sign my emails “Director of Broken Code,” because in hardware, honesty is the job. I’ll tell you exactly what doesn’t work yet. And the next device we ship has to be beautiful, not just functional. It’s going into someone’s home. Maybe one day, the home of someone I love.

In hardware, honesty is the job.

Tailgating flags, off-hours alerts, and suspicious access patterns form the intelligence layer that sits on top of the trusted access record. It is in active development.
